Wing commander Robert Stafford Tuck was a leading RAF fighter ace of the second world war. First in combat during the battle of France and Dunkirk, he then commanded 257 Squadron flying Hawker Hurricanes during the Battle of Britain. He eventually claimed 29 enemy aircraft destroyed.
